DIY Herbal Tisane with Bing Cherries

Inspired by Bonterra’s Biodynamic® vineyard at Butler Ranch, this homemade herbal tisane – a tea steeped with botanicals, spices, and fruit – pays homage to the cherry orchard that once occupied the estate, as well as the Single Vineyard Grenache it now produces.

When we’re not enjoying wines from our Biodynamic® Collection, we opt for this soothing herbal tea especially fitting for cool fall mornings and evenings. The tisane incorporates rosemary, sage, and cherries to echo the aroma profile of our Grenache.

What better way to channel the holistic mentality and practices that define our Butler Ranch estate than to savor this comforting beverage or gift a jar of the dried blend to a loved one?

If you don’t grow your own, all of these herbs are readily available at your local natural grocery store either fresh or in the bulk herb section.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. dried hibiscus flower
  • 1 Tbsp. dried rose hips
  • 1 Tbsp. dried raspberry leaf
  • 2 tsp. fresh rosemary, stem removed but leaves left whole
  • 4 fresh sage leaves
  • 1 whole star anise, lightly crushed
  • 2 tsp. cocoa nibs
  • 2 strips fresh orange peel
  • 8 each dried Bing cherries, roughly chopped

Instructions

Combine all ingredients and pour 8 cups of boiling water over. Steep 5-10 minutes, add honey if desired.

If you’d like to combine your tea blend to store for later use, combine all ingredients and spread out on a baking sheet. Let sit in a cool place, away from direct sunlight, for 2-3 days until the herbs are dry then store in a small jar or sachet.
